Inspired By: The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite childhood movies. I grew up watching it because my mom loves this movie. I remember watching it over and over again with my brothers and loving the story, loving how colorful everything is, and especially loving the gorgeous dress that the Good Witch wears.

So I'm thrilled that Oz: The Great and Powerful is coming out in March, even though it pretty much turns everything about the original movie on it's head. As you all know the whole thing is a dream, but in the new movie all the magic is real. But I'm kind of liking the idea that it's all real, that Oz actually travels to the Land of Oz, and that it's a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. I can't wait to see it, but until then we'll just have to dress like the characters.

The main character, Dorothy Gale, is a young woman who lands in a mysterious, very colorful world, but all she wants to do is get back home. The Good Witch of the North instructs her that the only way to do that is to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, which will take her to the Wizard of Oz. Without getting all custome-y, you can dress like Dorothy by wearing a blue dress with red heels or go casual in jeans, a white tee, and red flats. And don't forget your cute, little dog!

Scarecrow, Tin Man & Cowardly Lion

The three men Dorothy meet along the yellow brick road are Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion, who wish for a brain, a heart, and courage respectively. They accompany Dorothy in the hopes that the Wizard will grant them these things. To dress like Scarecrow, wear a green tunic and brown boots, and to dress like Tin Man, don your sparkliest silver dress. Add some of Cowardly Lion's flair with a faux fur stole.

Almira / The Wicked Witch of the West
Inspired By: The Wizard of Oz -- The Wicked Witch of the West
The Wicked Witch of the West, or Almira, comes to claim the ruby slippers from her dead sister, who was crushed by the house that Dorothy arrived in, but the Good Witch transfers them to Dorothy's feet before she can get them. Because of that, the Wicked Witch says the iconic phrase, "I'll get you, my pretty...and your little dog, too!" Wear all black, with a hint of green, to emulate the Wicked Witch on her casual days, or dress in a lacey black dress with a gray panama hat for a fancy affair.

Glinda / The Good Witch of the North
Inspired By: The Wizard of Oz -- The Good Witch of the North
Glinda, the Good Witch of the North first appears in a floating bubble. She gives the magical ruby slippers to Dorothy and at the end of the film, tells Dorothy that she always had the power to return home; they were on her feet the whole time. To dress like the Good Witch, go for lots of pink: a pink and gold dress, a pale pink blouse, a hot pink skirt, and don't forget to add glitzy sequins!

What do you think? Do you like The Wizard of Oz?
